John Glassmire has just received his MS in Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern University in the LIMS lab. His advisor is Prof. Colgate and he is co-advised by Michael Peshkin. He is researching Variable Friction Haptic Display (VFHD)

John's specific research is the development of a tool to control the friction felt between the fingerpad and the display. By modulating the apparent coefficient of friction, it is hypothesized that various textures and other fine features can be displayed on the surface. John is currently constructing a test-bed device for verifying this prediction. The device is planar in geometry and has an approximate 1.5in X 2.25in (3.81cm X 5.72cm) display surface.
