| The Claw is a fully automated electro-magnetic crane that locates and retrieves magnetic objects from a magnetically-sensitive surface. To activate The Claw, a user simply places a magnetic object on the wooden surface of the device. This wooden surface contains a grid of 63 magnetically-sensitive Reed switches that allow The Claw to determine the exact location of the magnetic object. Once The Claw knows the location of the magnet, two stepper motors orient the crane so that its electo-magnet is directly above the magnet. A DC motor then lowers the electo-magnet to lift the magnetic object off the surface of the grid. Once the magnet has been removed, the crane returns to a home position and drops the magnet into a bin. |
